Pecos River Brass is a 20-piece big band that was formed in 2000 in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area. We perform for a variety of concert jazz venues, private functions, and dances of all types. We perform our own arrangements as well as the music from the great big bands. We are a mainstream band with a love of melody, harmony, and rhythm.

We structure ourselves around authenticity when we perform the standards of the great big bands (Woody Herman, Count Basie, Les Elgart, Duke Ellington, Stan Kenton, and more!). Some of these bands used specific instrumentation and we make sure that when we play that specific selection, that we are portraying exactly how they performed it during that time.

Our saxophonists are all strong doublers and are able to add instruments to the band such as piccolo, flute, alto flute, wooden flute, clarinet, bass clarinet, and bass saxophone. When we perform Woody Herman, we use one alto, three tenors, and a baritone saxophone just as they did.

Our brass are all professional players here in the DFW. We will have the mutes the selection calls for and can fully demonstrate each selection as it was intended by the composer.

We have a wonderful rhythm section that is tight and supportive for the rest of the band. These musicians bring a lot of energy and excitement to the band. We have piano, guitar, bass, drum set, and auxiliary percussion.

We are a big band that LOVES VOCALS! Vocals in a big band are an essential part to big band history. We make sure that at every performance we demonstrate that importance to our audience. Our vocals bring a lot to the ensemble. We even have some of the members in the band sing!
